The Society for Scholarly Publishing (SSP) welcomes Christen Pruitt as its new Business Development Manager. In this role, Christen will collaborate closely with SSP staff, volunteers, the Executive Director, and the Board to set strategic direction for business growth. She will focus on expanding sponsorship, advertising, exhibits, and key product and program sales while supporting organizational memberships and fundraising initiatives.
“I’m pleased to welcome Christen to the SSP team,” said Melanie Dolechek, SSP Executive Director. “Her background and experience in scholarly publishing make her an excellent fit for this role. Many of our members have already crossed paths with Christen at one time or another. I’m excited to see what creative new ideas Christen will bring forth to help our members connect and grow their businesses. ”
With over a decade of experience connecting industry leaders to data-driven strategies, Christen has spearheaded initiatives to optimize sales operations and enhance audience engagement. Her deep commitment to scholarly publishing—particularly with society-owned portfolios—positions her to navigate challenges, identify opportunities, and align strategies that benefit SSP’s diverse members, societies, publishers, and service providers.
A seasoned expert in B2B solutions and strategic planning, Christen takes pride in empowering scholarly publishing professionals to assess, analyze, and activate resources to achieve their goals.
“I’m so thrilled to join SSP as the Business Development Manager because the mentorship, education, and networking offered by SSP have been instrumental to my success since I was introduced to the organization through the Early Career Fellowship in 2017,” Christen shared. “Now, I’m excited to bring my experience full circle by supporting SSP’s revenue-generating efforts. I look forward to sharing my unbridled enthusiasm for all things scholarly publishing.”
About the Society for Scholarly Publishing The Society for Scholarly Publishing (SSP), founded in 1978, is a nonprofit organization formed to promote and advance communication among all sectors of the scholarly publication community through networking, information dissemination, and facilitation of new developments in the field. SSP members represent all aspects of scholarly publishing—including publishers, printers, e-products developers, technical service providers, librarians, and editors. SSP members come from a wide range of large and small commercial and nonprofit organizations. They meet at SSP’s annual meetings, educational seminars, and regional events to hear the latest trends from respected colleagues and discuss common and mutual (and sometimes divergent) goals and viewpoints.
