Open Access Workshop Returns—With New Features and Bulk Discounts for Staff Development

Announcing the return of our acclaimed training workshop, “Open Access: Understanding Mission, Models, and Mindsets,” scheduled for Wednesday, July 23, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM ET. This highly interactive, 101-style session returns for a third time with refreshed content and expanded discount options, making it an ideal professional development opportunity for individuals and teams alike.

Led once again by renowned instructor Lisa Janicke Hinchliffe—Professor and Coordinator for Research and Teaching Professional Development at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a Scholarly Kitchen Chef—this workshop continues to be a must-attend event for those new to scholarly publishing as well as seasoned professionals seeking a stronger grasp of the latest in Open Access (OA).

As the OA landscape continues to evolve, so too does this workshop. New this year, participants will engage with updated case studies and explore how current developments—including policy shifts, such as the OSTP memo—are reshaping funding models and implementation strategies. The session retains its foundational overview of key OA models (green vs. gold) while offering deeper insights into business model innovation, such as micropayments, transformative agreements, collective action models, and more. While primarily focused on journals, OA monograph publishing will also be addressed.

With registration limited to just 60 participants, early sign-up is encouraged. Bulk discounts—make it easier than ever for teams to participate. Packages for 5, 10, or 25 registrations offer savings of up to 50%, making them perfect for onboarding or staff-wide professional development.

Individual staff members from partnering and sustaining members are eligible for additional discounts. Discounts are also available to members of AUPresses, NASIG, NISO, LPC, and ACSE.

Participants will receive a digital badge upon completion, which they can use to showcase their learning on LinkedIn or other professional platforms.

No recording will be available. Space is limited—register today!
