Next “Pulse Check” Poll to Capture Perspectives about the Economic Outlook for Scholarly Communications in 2026

We are excited to announce the second Pulse Check poll, a new initiative designed to gather timely, actionable insights from across the scholarly communications community.

The Economic Outlook for Scholarly Communications poll examines how professionals across the scholarly communications ecosystem are assessing the industry’s economic resilience in the year ahead. It will capture sentiment on financial outlooks, key economic pressures, and where institutions expect to prioritize investment amid shifting funding, policy, and technology dynamics. The poll also probes the structural and systemic challenges that will shape long-term economic viability.

The goal is to provide a timely snapshot of confidence, risk, and strategic direction across the scholarly communications ecosystem as it navigates a complex and uncertain economic landscape.

The SSP community is invited to participate in the poll until February 13.

Each Pulse Check poll consists of 5–6 focused questions, along with optional demographic information to enable richer segmentation and trend analysis.

A summary of each Pulse Check’s key takeaways will be published in The Scholarly Kitchen, with an expanded report available on the SSP website.

We’d love to hear your ideas for future Pulse Check topics! Please share your thoughts at the end of the survey.
