Webinar Preview | How AI Is Transforming Research: From Idea to Impact

Artificial intelligence is no longer a speculative force in scholarly communications—it is actively reshaping how research is conducted, interpreted, and applied across disciplines and career stages. As these tools become embedded in everyday workflows, the implications extend well beyond efficiency gains, touching on how knowledge is discovered, trusted, and used.

On Wednesday, April 15, “How AI Is Transforming Research: From Idea to Impact” will convene a panel of researchers and practitioners to explore how AI is being integrated into real-world research practices. Moving beyond conceptual discussions, this webinar focuses on how AI is already influencing the research lifecycle—from literature discovery and summarization to data interpretation and content consumption.

Across these use cases, a consistent theme is emerging: AI is not simply accelerating existing workflows; it is reshaping researcher behavior. Search strategies are evolving. Reading patterns are shifting. Decision-making is increasingly supported—and sometimes mediated—by automated tools. For publishers, societies, and service providers, this raises important questions about how to respond in ways that support both innovation and the integrity of the scholarly record.

The session will also examine how organizations can distinguish between assistive uses of AI and those that begin to influence interpretation or decision-making. This distinction is becoming increasingly important as AI moves from a productivity tool to a more embedded layer within the research process.

At the same time, the conversation will address the ethical and strategic dimensions of this transition. Issues such as transparency, attribution, bias, and over-reliance on automated outputs are no longer abstract concerns—they are practical considerations shaping policy, product development, and community expectations. Panelists will share perspectives on how these challenges are being navigated today, and where further clarity is needed.

Featuring insights from Xuan Wang, Dr. Giovanni Cacciamani, and Meaghan Brown, and moderated by Chhavi Chauhan, the discussion brings together perspectives from across research, libraries, and publishing. Together, they will explore how AI is influencing information behaviors and what that means for organizations working to support researchers in an increasingly complex environment.

This webinar is designed for professionals across scholarly publishing, libraries, and research support who are seeking a clearer, practice-based understanding of how AI is shaping the research ecosystem—and how we, as a community, can respond thoughtfully.

Registration is open for those looking to better understand—and prepare for—the next phase of AI’s role in scholarly communication.
