SSP is what it is because of you. Your time, insight, and care create a space where scholarly publishing professionals can connect, grow, and navigate change together.
During National Volunteer Week, we pause to recognize the many ways you move this community forward. Your contributions aren’t peripheral—they are central to how SSP learns, evolves, and serves.
More than 300 members volunteer across the organization, bringing a wide range of perspectives and expertise:
Community — You collaborate across committees and task forces or act as mentors in our Fellowship and Mentorship programs, sharing knowledge generously and building connections that strengthen the field.
- Inclusivity — You help advance our Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility commitments, ensuring our work reflects and supports the full breadth of our community.
- Adaptability — Through contributions like The Scholarly Kitchen, you surface new ideas, question assumptions, and help the community respond to ongoing change.
- Integrity — You lead with transparency and care, particularly on the Board and in governance roles, grounding SSP’s work in trust and accountability.
We know volunteering asks a lot—time, energy, and thoughtful engagement—often alongside demanding professional roles. That makes what you give all the more meaningful. We hope your experience with SSP offers connection, purpose, and a sense of shared progress.
Much of this work happens behind the scenes, but its impact is visible everywhere: in our programs, our conversations, and the strength of this community. Quite simply, SSP doesn’t function without you.
Thank you for everything you bring to this work. If you’d like to share what motivates you to volunteer, we’d love to hear from you—on LinkedIn or Bluesky, or send us a note!
We’re grateful to be in this together.
