Latest “Pulse Check” Poll focuses on Social Media in Scholarly Communications

We are excited to announce the fourth Pulse Check poll, “Social Media in Scholarly Communications,” which will gather timely, actionable insights from across the scholarly communications community.

The poll explores how social media is being used across the scholarly communications ecosystem and how its role is evolving in practice. As platforms diversify and expectations around visibility, engagement, and public communication continue to shift, organizations are making ongoing decisions about where to invest time and resources, what outcomes matter most, and how to assess value.

We seek to better understand which channels are in use, the goals they support, how effectiveness and return on investment are perceived, and how success is measured. The poll also examines broader perspectives on social media’s impact on scholarly communication. Your participation will help inform a more grounded, community-wide understanding of how social media is shaping the current and future landscape. The poll is open through June 15.

Each Pulse Check poll consists of 5–6 focused questions, along with optional demographic information to enable richer segmentation and trend analysis.

A summary of each Pulse Check’s key takeaways will be published in The Scholarly Kitchen, with an expanded report available on the SSP website.

We’d love to hear your ideas for future Pulse Check topics! Please share your thoughts at the end of the survey.
