Why Apply?
The SSP Emerging Leader Award presents a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the achievements and leadership potential of a rising star in scholarly communications. It enables peers and colleagues to recognize a nominee’s commitment to enhancing the field and their contributions to SSP’s programs and initiatives.
Established in 2012, this award honors an SSP member who has worked in the scholarly communication field for roughly 1 to 10 years and has demonstrated their potential through exceptional service and contributions to an SSP committee or task force, as well as innovative contributions to their field. The award will be announced and presented at the SSP Annual Meeting.
Eligibility Criteria
- Is an SSP member in good standing.
- Began working in the scholarly communication field within approximately the last 1-10 years.
- Has demonstrated leadership abilities on an SSP committee or task force.
Nomination Process
Any SSP member may submit a nomination packet proposing a candidate for the SSP Emerging Leader Award. Self-nominations are welcome.
Note: Please do not submit a nomination packet unless the candidate has consented to the nomination.
Materials to Submit
- Eligibility Verification:
- When did the nominee begin working in scholarly communications?
- When and how did the nominee get involved with SSP?
- What relevant work has the nominee been involved in on an SSP committee or task force?
- A summary (300-500 words) outlining why the nominee deserves this honor, including specific examples of demonstrated leadership and innovation. When preparing this summary, please detail how the nominee exemplifies the award criteria and the leadership qualities listed below.
- A letter of recommendation from a mentor or supervisor of the nominee in support of the nomination.
Note: Letters of recommendation should come from someone other than the nominator.
Award Criteria
- Record of service and leadership within SSP through participation in committees, task forces, or as a speaker, author, or mentor for SSP programs.
- Contributions to the field of scholarly communications have impacts that extend beyond merely benefiting one’s employer.
- Outstanding service and commitment to enhancing the field that surpasses normal responsibilities.
- Demonstrates SSP’s Core Values.
