Early Career Webinar Preview | From Manuscripts to Machines: A Fun Dive into AI for Publishing Newbies

Join us next week for a FREE webinar that will provide practical insights and strategies for those new to using AI in their work.

“From Manuscripts to Machines: A Fun Dive into AI for Publishing Newbies,” taking place on Wednesday, February 19, will explore the impact of AI on the publishing landscape (covering editorial, business, and technology), share practical AI use cases, and equip attendees with insights and strategies for leveraging AI in their work. We encourage attendees from all areas of scholarly publishing, including editorial and marketing, to join us, as well as participants from the sciences and humanities. Individuals with curiosity about this topic are also welcome!

The SSP Early Career Subcommittee is organizing this webinar to provide educational offerings that early career professionals can add to their “publishing toolkit.” We aim to present attendees with AI use cases relevant to the scholarly publishing workplace. In addition to practical applications, we also plan to discuss other considerations, such as the threats and opportunities posed by AI in publishing and the ethical uses of AI. The session will take a panel discussion format led by a moderator. We will have a series of planned questions for the panelists to answer, and we will reserve about 10-15 minutes at the end for Q&A. We encourage attendees to bring their questions! Moreover, we hope to share use cases, practical insights, and strategies for effectively integrating AI into their work.

Moderated by Rebecca Benner, Managing Editor, American Society of Anesthesiologists, the panelists include:

  • Josh Nicholson, the Chief Strategy Officer of Research Solutions and co-founder of Scite, a next-generation citation index that puts citations into context.
  • Rocio Vidal, Publication Data and Ethics Manager from American Chemical Society (ACS).
  • Hong Zhou, the Director of Intelligent Services Group in Wiley Partner Solutions.

We hope this session will provide attendees with a few concrete takeaways they can use in their daily careers or share with colleagues.
