Are you a student or an early-career professional eager to make a meaningful contribution to the world of scholarly communications? The Society for Scholarly Publishing invites you to apply for its 2026 Fellowship Program—an exceptional opportunity to learn, connect, and grow alongside leaders shaping the future of scholarly publishing.
Applications are open through December 5, and full details are available on our Fellowship page.
Each year, SSP awards Fellowships to students and professionals in the first four years of their careers in scholarly communications. This highly competitive program offers a range of career development, training, and networking opportunities, including:
- Pairing each Fellow with an industry expert mentor
- Collaborating with other Fellows to create a poster presentation for SSP’s 48th Annual Meeting, to be held May 27–29, 2026, in Chula Vista, California
- Joining an SSP committee and contributing to ongoing community initiatives
- Receiving complimentary SSP membership, registrations for selected SSP events, and travel assistance to attend the Annual Meeting
Through these experiences, Fellows gain valuable insight into the scholarly publishing landscape while developing meaningful professional relationships across disciplines and continents. Last year’s Fellows represented a vibrant and international community of emerging leaders in scholarly publishing—spanning disciplines from classics and anthropology to ecology, information science, and law. Among them were librarians, editors, data curators, publishing specialists, and communications professionals from institutions and organizations across North America, Europe, and Africa.
“It was amazing being able to connect and celebrate with all the other SSP fellows after months of preparation,” shared 2025 Fellow Mikayla Lee. “Congrats to you all and a very special shoutout to my research partner, Molly Hirst, for being such a wonderful collaborator.”
Rachel Riffe-Albright, Health Sciences Librarian at Eastern Kentucky University and another 2025 Fellow, agreed, writing, “Literally cannot say enough good things about the other fellows.”
A former Fellow herself, SSP’s current Business Development Manager Christen Pruitt reflected on the contributions of the 2025 cohort, sharing on LinkedIn, “As a past Fellow myself, The Scholarly Kitchen article by the 2025 Fellowship cohort is especially meaningful. The world has changed drastically since 2017, but the SSP community’s commitment to diverse, inclusive career development & authentic relationship building is as solid as ever.”
The SSP Fellowship Program is made possible by the Generations Fund—a sustainable endowment supported by generous donations from SSP members and the broader scholarly communications community. The Fund ensures SSP can continue to offer impactful programs like the Fellowship for years to come.
