Without volunteers, the SSP community wouldn’t be what it is: a thriving space for scholarly publishing professionals to connect, develop their careers, and navigate the challenges and advancements in the field, together.
Each April, we celebrate National Volunteer Week to express our heartfelt appreciation for the volunteers who keep SSP moving forward. Your dedication and passion are vital to the mission and vision of SSP and the broader scholarly publishing community.
Over 300 members volunteer to support the advancement of scholarly communications and publishing through activities that embody SSP’s Core Values:
- Community | Whether serving on committees and task forces or acting as mentors in our Fellowship and Mentorship programs, our volunteers come together from diverse backgrounds to harness their collective knowledge and unique perspectives.
- Inclusivity | Our Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility commitments are foundational to our mission, and volunteers drive us toward fulfilling them in various ways.
- Adaptability | In writing for SSP’s blog, The Scholarly Kitchen, volunteers challenge the status quo, embrace new ideas, and evolve alongside a constantly changing environment.
- Integrity | Our Board of Directors is comprised of dedicated volunteers who lead with transparency, mutual respect, and honesty.
Volunteering is not without challenges, and we need our incredible volunteers more than ever as we face the uncertainties ahead. We hope your experience as a volunteer is both meaningful and rewarding, and that you never doubt how grateful we are for your enthusiasm, motivation, and hard work.
Your work may often go unseen, but it is fundamental to our success. It’s not an exaggeration to say we couldn’t do it without you. We appreciate your commitment to being an integral part of our community, and we’d love to hear why you give back to the scholarly publishing community. Tag us on LinkedIn or Bluesky, or send us a note!
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
